Who likes a parking ticket? No, I thought as much. Since I have been driving I have only received three and all of them have been pretty frustrating. Especially as all of them were pedantic and the councils involved showed very little common sense. But I could moan about that until the cows come home so let's stay on topic. A Freedom of Information (FOI) requested by yourparkingpsace.co.uk shows that 31% of appeals are successful which range from a 81% success record area to a less than 1% record area.
The burning question is which area is the best and which area is the worst? Well good news for those living in Basingstoke and Deane as they are the areas who top the appeal table with 81%. Areas that sit at the bottom of the table with less than 1% are Wandsworth, South West London, East London and Havering. I can vouch for SW London as that is roughly where I live and as mentioned I've had no joy. I must admit I only appealed one of the three tickets but the other two were petty in my opinion.
In between 81% and 1% we have Lincolnshire County Council with 80%, Solihull and West Dorset fetched 77% with Preston, Merton (again not too far from me), Bournemouth, Lewisham and Swindon achieved 20% or less success rate. The Freedom of Information also shows that 24% (or around 1.1 million) of council issued tickets are appealed.
So if you ever find yourself near Havering or London think twice before parking, it may cost you more than your standard pay and display...
