You will learn quite quickly that I am a big fan of hot hatches. So you can only imagine my excitement when I read this morning that Ford are to release a new, faster Fiesta ST which will go on show at the Geneva Motor Show.
What's different?
Ford's upgraded pocket rocket will now produce 200 PS and therefore will be named the 'ST200'. It will deliver 10% more power and 20% more torque giving it a 0-62 mph time of 6.7 seconds, down from 6.9 seconds. This means it will be the most powerful production Fiesta and will be available to customers in the summer. The ST200 will also have cosmetic changes with an exclusive Storm Grey exterior, special interior styling and matt black alloy wheels.
Will it be good?
The original Fiesta ST that launched in 2013 has won over many critics and received many plaudits so I think it's safe to say that Ford are onto another winner. The ST200, like the standard car it will feature the 1.6 litre EcoBoost engine which will be mounted to a 6 speed manual gearbox. The car will go into production in June but I imagine they will probably sell them quicker than they can make them!
Joe Bakaj, Vice President of Product Development had this to say about the new model: “The Fiesta ST is truly beloved by owners and critics. The ST200 takes this special drivers’ car to a new level of power and performance. I think it’s a future classic in the making.” I don't think anyone can argue with that statement as I'm sure this car can only do great things.
