Next week COYS will host it's Spring Classics auction with an extra special car on show. The car in question is a 1963 Jaguar E-Type which was discovered hiding under a bush in Bisley, Surrey. This neglected example has 44,870 miles on the clock and expected to raise a tidy sum when it goes under the hammer on the 8th of March. The car even still features the last tax disc which expired in November 1969. James Good, COYS' valuers said that the car is “It is ideal for restoration and is extremely rare.”
The car was first owned by Ivor Arbiter who may not sound familiar at first but he is man of interest as he designed the 'drop-T' logo for legendary band The Beatles. “The Beatles logo is now recognised as one of the most significant and widely reproduced logos in history, and the fact that it was designed by the first owner of this E-Type is not insignificant,” commented James. The car did change ownership, being sold to Frank Riches who was a keen motor enthusiast. He used the E-Type with his MGTF to race around Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Blackbushe.
The E-Type comes with original logbook, it's last MOT certificate (from 1968), sales invoice to Frank Riches as well as original handbooks and also the original jack. It's sad to see such a classic car in this state but I'm sure the buyer will restore to it's former glory and it will once again look magnificent!
