For those of you reading the title a little bemused stay with me, this is about cars, believe me. More specifically it is about a Vauxhall Corsa that was won in a hole in one competition. Personally I think a Volkswagen Golf would have been more appropriate but that's besides the point. Jake Warner, 24, achieved a hole in one from an impressive 202 yards at Haverhill Club, Suffolk but when he went to collect the car he found it to be an entry level petrol rather than the five door 1.6 TDI that was advertised.
The car that Warner was offered instead was a £6,500 1.0 litre model and this prompted him to take the issue to Cambridge County Court. The club had offered him £7,000 in cash but he declined and continued with the court case. Despite having lost the case the judge awarded Mr Warner £7,500 however the legal fees had cost £10,000 leaving him £2,500 short.
He lost the case on the technicality that he hadn't seen the car before the competition. Warner had to remortgage his house to come up with the fees as well as paying for his wedding. He had tried to make a deal with club to get £8,000 plus a year's free membership but they declined as it was more than what the car was worth. Looking back on the situation he said: 'In hindsight, I wish I had just accepted the money. It would have been a lot easier than going through a long legal fight.'
Since losing the case in January Mr Warner and 12 of his friends and family have also left the club in protest of how he was treated. So after getting a hole in one it turned out that he got a bogey, poor chap.
