The Dieselgate scandal just refuses to go away doesn't it? It's been a fair few months since the news broke yet it's still at the forefront of our minds. Now news has broke that Michael Horn, the CEO of Volkswagen Group of America has resigned on mutual terms and is effective immediately. Hinrich J. Woebcken, recently appointed head of North America region and chairman of VW Group of America will step in on an interim basis.
Horn had only been in the role since January 2014 and is thought to be part of the 30 managers who knew about the emissions cheating software so if that's the case his days were always likely to be numbered.
Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen brand, said: “I want personally to say ‘thank you’ to Michael Horn for the great work he has done for the brand and with the dealers in the United States. During his time in the US, Michael Horn built up a strong relationship with our national dealer body and showed exemplary leadership during difficult times for the brand.”
Since the emissions scandal came to light there has been calls for car makers to perform real world tests which will more realistic than the laboratory conditons that are used at the moment. There are also trials being held in Birmingham and London where pollution cameras will be used on real world cars to measure how much CO2 is coming from the exhaust. There's more on that story here.
