Drink driving is a serious issue and even in this modern day, drivers run the risk of driving whilst under the influence. One driver from Northwich has been left with a rather expensive headache from his drink drive conviction which has lead to paying a £405 fine, plus the outstanding £9,000 finance on his car.
Malcolm James Lowe was stopped by police on the 21st of Febuary on the A533 and was found to be over the 35mg limit with a reading of 60mg. You think he would know better, having only recently passed his driving test but I'm sure this will be a life lesson he will not forget in a hurry as it has proved very costly. After passing his test Lowe bought a 2013 Vauxhall Astra on finance which he has returned due to his driving ban, however he is still having to pay towards the £9,000 cost of the vehicle.
On March the 9th Mr Lowe appeared at Chester Magistrates Court where he was slapped with a 17 month driving ban and fined £405 for drink driving without insurance. His mother had been paying for the insruance but a payment was missed leading to the policy being cancelled.
His representative, Mr Christopher Jonhson, said: “He has only recently purchased the car after getting his license. He’s now returned the car but he still owes £9,000 which he will have to continue to pay. He’s done himself an absolute disservice and it’s a tough lesson to learn.”
“In terms of the insurance – it was being paid by his mother and there was a payment missed so the policy was cancelled. My client was blissfully unaware he had no insurance.”
