Mercedes Benz have announced that the GLC 43 4MATIC will be their next model to receive the coveted AMG treatment, which will be their first mid-size SUV do so. As with all AMG models there are no half measures and the new GLC 43 4MATIC features a 3.0 litre biturbo V6 engine, producing 367 bhp. This is combined with the 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox and means that the SUV is able to get to 0-62 in only 4.9 seconds and will reach a limited top speed of 155 mph.
This model also features Merc's 4MATIC four-wheel drive system, with a rear biased torque distribution of 31 to 69 percent (front axle to rear axle). This means that will offer better driving dynamic whilst offering better traction when accelerating. It will be more agile too, thanks to Air Body Control suspension system which has been specially adapted and comes with three settings; comfort, sport and sport plus.
The steering is speed-senstive and comes with a variable ratio, which should offer the driver a high level of precise, authentic feedback. Like the suspension, the steering comes with a choice of modes so the driver can get a setting 'just right' for them. These come in comfort or sport, or they can be personalised in the 'individual mode'.
Like any AMG it will hold it's own distinctive design with plenty of chrome on the outside - which may not be to everyone's taste - and plenty of red stitching in the cabin, an absolute must for sporty cars. I've got to say I am a big fan of the diamond radiator grille which is made of chrome plated pins surrounding the iconic three pointed star. The GLC will also come with big wheels, with the standard rims on offer measuring at 19 inches, although you can pay more and get 21 inch wheels if the standard 19" are 'too small' for your liking.
The GLC 43 4MATIC will debut at the New York International Auto Show later this month and will launch at the beginning of June 2016.
