Ford Introduce Innovative Headlights

It can be rather annoying when you are driving at night and some jackass drives towards with their high beams on. Thankfully however, Ford have the solution with their new Glare-Free technology.

How does it work?

The system used a windscreen mounted camera which is able to detect the headlights (or rear lights) of vehicles and even bicycles from 800m away. It will then use specially developed headlights to block light that would other wise blind the oncoming motorists/cyclists, thus making it a safer and more comfortable environment. The Glare-Free system will work alongside Ford's Adaptive Front Lighting System which adjusts the headlight angle and brigtness dependent on factors such as speed, light and steering angle.

The new technology has won praise from the AA President, Edmund King OBE who commented: “Road-users being dazzled by the use of vehicle full-beam is an increasing problem in the UK, and is said to be the cause of hundreds of road accidents and around 10 fatalities each year. Headlight technology is advancing rapidly, providing drivers with a greater field of vision and illumination on the road, but can cause an equal number of problems for other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. It is testament to Ford for offering this advanced feature to their customers to help tackle the issue.”

The future's bright... Well as long as nothing is coming the othe way...

The new system is available now on the S-Max and Galaxy with the upcoming Edge also to use the technology. As well as this technology, Ford customers can also enjoy safety features such as pedestrian detection, traffic sign recognition and adjustments to the throttle to help drivers stick to the speed limit. Ford have also been developing cars to withstand potholes to ensure their cars care more durable and offer the highest amount of comfort possible.
