Nissan Unveil New GT-R

Today saw the unveiling of Nissan's new GT-R, with what the Japanese brand say carries the most significant changes since the first model from 2007.

What's New?

Although the shape may be familiar, Nissan have given the GT-R a complete makeover on the front end, which provide better engine cooling and better stability at high speed. This is thanks to the new V Motion grille, finished in matte chrome and a new bonnet which has been reinforced. The sidewalls have also been pushed out to improve airflow.

It's not just the front end that has received all the attention, the rear end has also had work done to it. The famous 4 ring lights stay but the bodywork has been altered to provide improved airflow, much like the sidewalls. The rear also sees four exhaust pipes which always looks good in my opinion. Not only does the car look more chiseled but it creates less drag as well as the same amount of downforce as previous models of GT-R.

What's Underneath?

The new GT-R will be powered by Nissan's award winning 3.8 litre twin tubrocharged V6 engine, with each one being handcrafted by it's own technician. This engine will offer 562 bhp and 637Nm of torque. Although the power is is upped by 20 bhp it's not as much as the GT-R Nismo which chucks out 592 bhp but that's not to say this new model will be a slouch. The 0-62 time will still be around 2.8 seconds so I doubt you will want for more speed. The engine will be mated to a six-speed dual clutch affair which is likely to be faster than the eye can blink.

New Interior, More Comfort

The interior has also been improved and has been designed to give a higher level of comfort. Step inside and you will be greeted by plenty of leather as well as 8 inch touchscreen monitor, found in the middle. The tablet has large icons to make it easy to operate and Nissan have done away with the switches not needed, reducing them from 27 to 11. The paddles for the gearbox are now mounted to wheel rather than behind the wheel, meaning that drivers can change gear mid turn easier.

The new model will be available this Autumn although no price has been declared.
