Mercedes-Benz debuted their new AMG C63 yesterday at the New York International Auto Show.
The new model will feature a V8 bi-turbo engine which makes the C63 AMG unique in it's segment as it's the only car to do so, meaning that the driver can enjoy V8 power with the wind in their hair. Like any AMG, the engine is bound to snarl and will be even more audible once the roof is down. The engine is available with two outputs, 476 bhp in the standard car or you can opt for the S model which offers 510 bhp.
Not only will the engine produce plenty of noise, it will catapult the cabriolet to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds (S Version) before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph. Customers can opt for the AMG Driver's Package though, which will push the top speed to 174 mph. The engine itself is closely related to the one found in the Mercedes-AMG GT and has the turbochargers in between the "V" of the engine rather than on the outside of the cylinder banks. This means that the engine is more compact and will offer optimal response and lower emissions.
The engine will be combined with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed gearbox and can be used as an automatic when cruising or the driver can use the paddles if they want a more involved ride, with the system giving a rapid response to each shift. The car will also offer a dynamic ride thanks to the AMG RIDE CONTROL which offers the driver an adaptive ride, with three options available to choose from; comfort, sport and sports plus. A limited-slip differential is thrown in as well, to give better traction when cornering and will enable better acceleration out of the corner.
The new model will hit the market in August and is likely to cost around £66,000 for the base model.
