A female driver and her young female passenger were left in a heart-stopping moment when their car got stuck inside a level crossing. The driver was in slow moving traffic and got stuck in the box junction leading to a few frantic minutes. Accepting that she could not move forward, she moves the car parallel to the barriers in a bid to avoid the oncoming train.
After what must have felt like a lifetime, the barriers were raised, allowing the stranded SUV to get clear of danger. All the action was caught on a dashcam belonging to Ross Malickis who was understandably shocked about what he saw unfold in front of him.
Speaking of the incident he said: "It is quite common that people wait in the yellow box at that junction, which is really dangerous. There were two other drivers who managed to sneak out behind someone when the light started flashing but this lady, who was with what could have been her daughter, got caught behind the barriers. She was clearly really scared, you should have seen the look on her face."
He added: "She tried to push through but couldn't and then she started turning round. I don't know where she was planning to go though as it was blocked on all sides. I was scared there could be a bad accident. I was on the phone to my mum on speaker phone and said that I might have to hang up and call 999. But thankfully the barriers eventually opened."
Let this be a reminder that the box junctions at railway crossings are there for a reason. Do not run the risk!
