Ok. So at this point you're thinking 'this is a no brainer, the jet will win easily,' but don't be so sure. This story comes from Down Under, where a Qantas Boeing 737-800 was raced against a Tesla Model S at Avalon airport in Victoria, Australia. Behind the wheel was V8 supercar driver Tony d'Alberto who had the exciting - if not daunting - task of racing the huge passenger jet.

The race took place over 3km, with the Tesla getting an early advantage, being able to hit 30 mph in around 3 seconds. The 737 isn't left behind for long though as it made ground back thanks to its jet engines and a top speed of 545 mph. The two become neck and neck as the Model S hit its top speed of 155 mph

This rather unusual race is a result of the new partnership between Qantas and Tesla, which will see all Model S owners receive a free of charge Qantas Club membership. The American carmaker will also hold exclusive events for higher-tiered Frequent Flyer members, as well as installing chargers in it's valet areas at airports. Qantas will become Tesla's airline of choice with complimentary cover being given for Qantas' carbon offset program.
