Matt Armstrong, a resident in West Norwood parked his car as usual down his road and then woke up the next morning to find that a diasabled bay had been parked around his car overnight. Mr Armstrong, a theatre worker thought it was a April Fool's joke but the ticket on his Renault Clio proofed otherwise.
The disabled bay was painted AROUND his car overnight which meant when morning broke the car was parked illegally, causing a £110 fine to be issued. Ouch. The disabled bay had been requested by one of Mr Armstrong's neighbors for her disabled husband two years ago. Sadly her husband passed away, meaning that the bay was no longer needed and she had contact Lambeth council a few times to notify them.
However this appears to gave fallen on deaf ears as they carried out the work last Friday, much to the annoyance of Mr Armstrong. Speaking on the bizarre matter, he commented:
“They put in this disabled bay which no one needs, painted it under my back wheels and then gave me a parking ticket.
“They were inside the parking bay by about two feet. Who in their right mind would do this? When I saw the painted bay and the ticket, I thought it was an April Fool’s joke.”
He said he was "livid" when he saw it and added: “What can I do but pay the fine and hope to repeal it. If you don’t pay you get clamped or towed away. Is this what we pay our council tax for? It’s an absolute joke.”
Thanks to The Evening Standard, who got in contact with relevant authority, the ticket has been cancelled. All's well that ends well then...
