A car enthusiast has been reunited with a car almost 30 years after seeing the car posted on eBay. Keith Harris, 49 from Bromsgrove had sold his beloved 1983 Audi GT Coupe back in 1987 after it was involved in a crash and he could no longer afford to insure the motor.
It was by chance that 29 years later he found the very same car being sold eBay thanks, after he amazingly identified it using a keen eye to spot its 12-dent on the bonnet. He sold the car for £4,200 back in the 80s and after travelling 300 miles to Dunfermline, Scotland he bought the car back for a fee of £1,100.
The car was sold as a wreck but the engine still runs and the car still has its original features, making ideal for restoration, which Mr Harris has firmly on the agenda. The car, named 'Dignity' after a the 80s song by Deacon Blue has been stripped down to be resprayed, will be used as the wedding car for his daughter's wedding this summer. What a lovely touch, I really hope it all goes well.
On the experience, Mr Harris said: "I saw a red Audi GT Coupe and I thought 'that looks like my old car.' "Then I saw it still had the old kink near the bonnet catch and I could see the marks where the dent had been pulled out and resprayed.
"They normally blank out the car registration plates when they sell online. But amazingly you could still read the number plate on this one.
"I zoomed in and I could not believe it. There it was, my old number plate - A100 GRW - the car of my dreams for sale on eBay. It was surreal.
On getting the car home, he added: "When my wife got home I said: 'Sit down, I've bought my old Audi again.
"The car looked a bit tired and tatty but better than I expected. It is still totally the same car as I had all those years ago and still has many of the original parts.
What a truly romantic and heart-warming story.
