A heavily modified Nissan GT-R NISMO set a new drift speed record when it was able to hit a top speed of a cool 189 mph. A lot of cars can't even do that in a straight line, let alone sideways!
The insane GT-R was slid to the record by Masato Kawabata, who was required to hold the drift for a set amount of time for it count, which he was able to achieve, beating the previous record of 159 mph set by a modified Toyota GT86 in 2013.
The new record was achieved at the Fujuairah International Airport in the UAE and as mentioned the car was heavily modified in order to get the speed needed. These modifications include tuning by Japanese firm GReddy Trust, who were able to tune the 3.8 litre V6 to produce a monumental 1380 bhp. The GT-R was also converted to rear-wheel drive as well as lightweight wheels fitted, wrapped with specially designed Toyo tyres.
