The infamous Nissan Skyline has been named as the most iconic Japanese car ahead of this year's Japfest, the biggest celebration of Japanese cars in Europe. The fame of the Skyline has been helped build popularity thanks to the 'PlayStation Generation' and its appearance in the second Fast and Furious film.
The Skyline has been around since 1957 but the car first came into UK prominence in 1997 when it was featured on the hit PlayStation game Gran Turismo. It's no wonder that the Skyline was the clear winner as it has won many fans in the UK who have imported Skylines in to modify and show them off. The runners up were the Toyota Supra - another Fast and Furious star - and the equally iconic Subaru Impreza.
Event Manager Katherine Chappell said: “The Nissan Skyline is one of the cars that really kicked off the Japanese tuning craze in the UK, so it’s no surprise to see that it’s been named as the most iconic Japanese performance car of all time. Japfest is a real celebration of the culture that it, in part, created, and we look forward to celebrating its success this year among the event’s festival atmosphere.”
Japfest will take place later this month (24th) at its new venue of Silverstone. The new venue choice comes after 16,000 people attended the last event, meaning that a bigger venue will be needed to cope with the masses that will flock to share their love of Japanese cars.
