BMW have shipped over 2 million models of their ever popular 5 Series. This achievement sets new benchmarks in the premium business segment.
The current model has been on sale since 2010, with over 2 million units sold and sales have risen 42% compared to the previous generation (5th). Since it's initial release in 1972 BMW have sold more than 7.5 million models of the 5 series, making one of their most successful cars in its history. Last year saw the German carmaker sell over 347,000 different variants of the 5 Series.
It is not just in sales that the 5 Series has excelled however, the car has picked up a plethora of awards. These include 'Best Car 2016' following a readers poll in Auto Motor Sport and also won the award in the 'Upper Midrange' award, which it do so for the sixth time in a row. The car has also won awards for its design, these include the 'Red Dot Award', 'iF Gold Award', 'Good Design Award' and Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany. Blimey, I hope they have a big trophy cabinet.
As well as its design and the way how it drives, the 5 Series offers a wide range engines, meaning that there should be an engine to suit everyone. Buyers can choose from engines that range from frugal four cylinder engines up to snarling eight cylinder engines. BMW are also able to offer its BMW ConnectedDrive system which has unique features such as Intelligent Emergency Call with Accident Severity Recognition.
