Two special Lamborghini Contachs are to go for auction next month at Silverstone and could fetch a combined total of £520,000-£625,000. The two Italian supercars will go under the hammer on May the 20th at the Silverstone Auctions' May Sale.
The first of the Contachs is a 1989 special edition that was produced to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Lamborghini. Only 627 were produced, making this a rare example and this is the first that to be offered for sale in 16 years.
This model was designed by a chap called Horacio Pagani, whose name may be familiar to you. This is because he is the man behind the Pagani Zonda series, and of course the more recent Huayra. The name-dropping doesn't stop there however, as this car was previously owned by Cleo Roberts who was married to the late Carroll Shelby, the legendary car designer and racer.
The 25th Anniversary edition of the Contach features bespoke wheel arch extensions, extended air ducts and a new engine cover design. the car also had improved torque and performance, allowing the car to hit a top speed of 185 mph. Throughout its lifetime the car has only covered 8,000 miles and is expected to sell for £250,000-£300,000.
The second Contach is a rare right-hand drive model that comes from 1983. This Lamborghini Contach 5000 S also has some impressive connections as it once belonged to a Saudi prince by the name of Prince Salman Bin Saud Abdulazaiz. This model is also rarer than the 25th Anniversary car as only 320 models were produced, even less of those in right-hand driver form.
The car was first registered in the UK in 1998 before it was stripped out and restored by Lamborghini expert Mike Pullen. Since being with its current owner since 2009 the car has had £60,000 put into it to restore it and has been kept in a custom heated and dehumidified storage facility in Mallorca. This car is expected to fetch £275,000 to £325,000.
“We’re no stranger to Lamborghinis at Silverstone Auctions having sold some of the best available on the market this year, and the Countach always draws impressive glances”, adds Nick Whale. “It is a truly incredible supercar and to have two examples in the May Sale, both with great provenance, will make for a highly anticipated auction indeed.”
