Bugatti Veyron Recalled

Yes, that's right, not even one of the most expensive and fastest cars in the world is safe from the dreaded recall. To make matters even worse, the hypercar has not been recalled for just one fault but three. These include faulty jack plates, faulty fuel sensors and battery cables that corrode, overheat and even catch fire.

The recalls are for models sold in the United States, with 87 cars (these include 2006-'10 Veyron, 2010-'12 Veyron Grand Sport and 2011-'13 Veyron Super Sport) affected by the jack plates can corrode and could cause them to fall off. This is not really the sort of thing you want to hear when the car is capable of hitting over 250 mph and cost a sizable fortune to buy.

The French carmaker have also recalled 72 2006-'10 Veyron and 2010-'11 Veyron Grand Sport models due to fuel gauges that may show that there is more petrol in the tank then there actually due to a faulty sensor. This far from ideal, considering the mpg is about 8. No, that's not a typo. I imagine owners probably spend more time filling the car up rather than driving it.

13 of the 2006-'08 Veyron models have problems with the positive battery cable, which can cause it to corrode, overheat and even set on fire, although all of these cars have already been repaired. This comes at a bad time for Volkswagen who own Bugatti as they are still reeling over 'Dieselgate' and they had to recall 391,000 Touaregs and 409,477 Porsche's Cayennes.

Even worse, these faults have been known for quite some time but this is the first that official action has been taken. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires manufacturers to report defects within 5 days of their recovery but Bugatti did not do this and instead made repairs available internally. Bugatti have "Flying Doctors" that will be contacting all owners affected. So just goes to show, even the motoring elite cannot escape recalls!
