Subaru of America have announced that it has built an all-new, purpose built WRX STI, in a bid to to break the time record on the Isle of Man TT course. The car has been developed in tandem with Prodrive and Subaru Tecnica International. Helping the car break the record will be rally driver Mark Higgins. He will take on the famous 37 mile course later this year.
It was Subaru who broke the last record which was set in 2014 with a time of 19 minutes and 15 seconds, with an average lap speed of 117.51 mph, breaking its own record set in 2011. It seems like Subaru are never satisfied but it's good to a company looking to better itself. Subaru should have all the resources needed, with Prodrive and Subaru Tecnica International onboard. Prodrive have worked with the Japanese carmaker befor, as well as working with the Aston Martin Racing team. Subaru Tecnica International have experience designing road course cars, including the class-winning 2015 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race winner.
“We are excited to be back and running on the Isle of Man TT course,” said Dominick Infante, National Manager of Product Communications, Subaru of America. “This is one of the most amazing road courses in the world and the Isle of Man TT is one of the most exciting races of the year. We have previously run the TT Course in near-stock Subaru WRX STIs, but this year we set out to design the ultimate WRX STI for this circuit.”
