Honda's New Civic Sport

Japanese manufacturer Honda have the new Civic Sport variant which will be available in showrooms in May.

It will feature the brand's 1.4 i-VTEC engine and will join the 1.6 diesel engine and the 1.8 litre petrol engine and will be classed as the entry model. It will be priced from £18,360 or £199 (with a £3,415) a month if you prefer the finance route.

Like its faster brother, the Type R, the Sport will hold a more aggressive look, sporting 17 inch alloy wheels, a colour coded rear wing and also takes styling cues from the Type R. The performance won't be blinding though as there is just 99 bhp on tap. Having said that, it's not that much slower than the 118 bhp produced by the diesel and 140 bhp offered by the larger 1.8 engine.

Philip Crossman, Managing Director at Honda UK, commented: “The addition of the 1.4-litre petrol engine version of the Sport strengthens our Civic family line up and makes the more aggressively styled version of our popular family hatchback more accessible. “The smaller engine makes the Civic Sport more economical and more efficient and therefore a much more attractive proposition.”

Earlier this year we saw Honda's new vision of what the next generation of Civic will look like when it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. That will come in 2017 and the Japanese brand have styled it to be lower, wider and more aggressive, in a bid to draw in younger customers.
