Mitsubishi Announce Bogus Fuel Consumption Figures

Mitsubishi have today announced that the data it has been submitting to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) was incorrect. This means that the Japanese firm have been publishing fuel consumption figures which were better than what the cars would be capable of.

It has also come to light that the firm have also been testing its cars using a different method to the one required by Japanese law. However, the company have acted quickly and have stopped production of the four cars affected, which are only offer on sale in Japan.

These include the eK Wagon, eK Space and two cars it produces for Nissan, the Dayz and Roox. Mitsubishi have apologised to its customers and stakeholders and will bring in a committee of independent experts to investigate the issue.

Lance Bradley, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK says: “Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has acted quickly and decisively. We understand that such issues are of great concern to consumers. I would like to reassure everyone that there is no evidence to suggest that UK or European models are affected’.

Once again, it is only cars sold in Japan that are affected so all UK owners can breathe a sigh of relief right about now.
