I'm sure quite a few of us have done embarrassing things on their driving tests, or maybe had epic fails on their big day. Fear not though, as I imagine they may not have been as bad as what happened 17 year-old Tom Lo.
Lo had the misfortune to hit a deer as he was travelling 40 mph on a country lane near Fingringhoe during his test. He produced his best efforts not hit the baby deer as he performed an emergency stop but it was not enough to avoid a collision.
Speaking about what happened after he struck the deer, Lo said: “I had so many things going on inside my head . I thought have I failed my test? Has the deer died? It was crazy when it happened.”
After the examiner got out the car to check for damage Lo was able to continue and despite that potentially traumatic event Lo went on to pass with just two minors. Not bad for someone who killed an animal on their driving test, it's also one less minor than I got and I don't have the excuse of hitting a deer.
It was mixed feeling for the sixth-form college student after he passed, stating: He added: “I was pleased to pass my test but I also killed a baby deer so I didn’t feel like celebrating. I was just happy because I had worked hard and it was important to me.”
Even so, his instructor Robert Jezierski of Coggeshall Driving School was understandably concerned over what happened but was quick to praise Lo on his determination to carry on. Speaking about the incident, Mr Jezierski said: He said: “Whenever someone passes I usually get a smile or the thumbs up but Tom was just sat there you could tell he was shook up.
"Full credit to him though because it didn’t affect his driving and he passed with only two minors. I think he was just happy to get it out of the way with the exams coming up.”
