Although the filming for Clarkson, Hammond and May's new venture for Amazon Prime is in full swing, there is still no name. The time is slowly running out too, as the new series is set to hit our screens in the autumn. The car-mad trio have even released a short trailer in where they try to come up with names - with very little success.
Jeremy Clarkson has reported in his weekly column for the Sunday Times that despite his best efforts he simply cannot come up with a name suitable for the new show. In the trailer he comes up with 'small puddle of excellence', far from his best efforts I'm sure. The other names that have thought of include: Prime Torque, Autonation, and Skid Mark. I know how tough it can be to think of a suitable name, I went through over 30 names before I came up with Car Obsession.
Clarkson noted in his column he made "£7,00 calls" to his lawyers - every morning- yet nothing original has been put in place. He also thought about opening up a competition for the public to come up with a name but he feared that the name would be something like 'Cary McCarface', in tribute to the ship Boaty McBoatface.
Because of legal reasons Clarkson is not able to have the word 'Gear' in the name of the title, which is probably why 'Gear Knobs' never stuck. Just as well as don't think they was a great name anyway. So although the new series draws ever closer, the troublesom trio are now closer to coming up with a name.
What would you name the show? Comment below and maybe, just maybe we can come up with something that is fit for Clarkson, Hammond and May.
