For those of you who watched the old generation of Top Gear - not the old, old one with presenters such as Noel Edmonds - may remember there used to be a black stig. He was short-lived but the man behind the black suit was racing driver Perry McCarthy. He was famously killed off by being shot of a aircraft carrier in an old modified Jag.
Well after that 'death', McCarthy is back in Top Gear. Sort of. McCarthy has taken ownership of Topgear Tuning after joining the firm last year. Topgear Tuning is a company that offers ECU remapping across 270 dealer centres nationwide. For those unfamilar with ECU remapping, the ECU is basically the electronic brain of the engine and by remapping it you can see engine power gains of upto 30% and an improved fuel economy of upto 15%.
The company has already remapped 20,000 cars and will hope for many more, following the company's website launch. Topgear Tuning works business to business, working alongside with dealerships that do not have the resources needed to offer the bespoke approach that TT take. Not only can the firm help out other businesses, but it is also able to raise public awareness of the benefits of remapping.
Speaking about the advantages of ECU remapping, McCarthy said: “Not only does it provide immediate improvement in the power and torque of your car, but it greatly enhances its performance and throttle response. If only some of those reasonably priced cars that we raced around the Top Gear track had been remapped, I’m sure the leader board would’ve looked very different”
