The Mazda MX-5 has been going strong since its launch back in 1989 and has become one of the first cars to be thought of when the topic of roadsters pops up. The Japanese carmaker has produced its millionth model and will show it off at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In it's 27 year lifespan four generations have been produced and the model holds the Guinness World Record of being the best-selling two-seater roadster of all time. It's not just the millionth model that will be on show, the MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concepts will be on show on what will be their first time outside of North America.
Attendees of the show will also be able to experience these models on the hillclimb course at Goodwood, when the event takes place on the 23rd of June. The MX-5 has won may fans through the years thanks to it's dynamic drive and it's lightweight, simple design.
But as much as the formula may seem simple Mazda have put a lot of work into the MX-5 to ensure that the car is perfectly balanced and fun to drive. You get the fun of a classic British sportscar but with the high reliability of a Japanese car, no wonder the MX-5 is so successful.
Jeremy Thomson, Mazda Motors UK Managing Director “The MX-5 sits at the heart of Mazda’s brand and it embodies all that is great about our cars. Its fun to drive character has strengthened the bond between Mazda and its customers for more than a quarter of a century. The production of the one-millionth MX-5 is a landmark and it’s great that we can celebrate this with MX-5 owners and fans at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.”
