The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is now on sale and features some very advanced technology. The new model is the first car to have the Tile Bluetooth tracking system integrated which is set to make life easier and hassle-free for the car's owner.
What is Tile?
Tile is a tracking device that uses Bluetooth and ensure that you never lose important items ever again. It is said that the average person spends an average of 15 minutes per day looking for a lost item, a task that can be not just annoying but disruptive.
The system uses 'Tile tags' which can be placed on important items such as keys, wallets or anything else that you may find important. The app will then monitor where the items are using Bluetooth. At this point you may be asking how the Discovery makes use of this technology. The app is built in the cars new infotainment system and once it has been launched it will make sure that all the items needed are in the car and present.
This means that you will never leave anything at home again which saves a lot of tress and inconvenience. If by chance you have left something behind the system will tall you and if you are having trouble finding it a 90-decibel alarm will sound, helping to locate the item. Just make sure you don't use that function in the middle of the night though.
New car, new infotainment system
As well as the new Tile integration, Land Rover have fitted a new infotainment system which features a new 10.2 inch touchscreen. This is an improvement on the last system that used an 8 inch screen and the new 10.2 system packs a punch. The InControl Touch Pro system is powered by a quad-core processor and features 60gb solid state drive, which is 100% faster than a traditional hard drive. The new system also has a higher resolution than it's predecessor to ensure all the details on the screen are crisp and easy to read.
A hat-trick of safety
It's not just the entertainment and convenience departments that have been upgraded, the new Disco features three new safety features to keep its occupants out of harm. It features a Driver Control Monitor that looks for signs that the driver is getting tired and will use visual and audible warnings if it detects fatigue.
The Intelligent Speed Limiter uses the Traffic Sign Recognition to alert the driver when a speed limit has changed and will automatically lower to the speed limit required once the driver has accepted the prompt to slow down.
Lane Keep Assist is a technology that has been around for a while but unlike older systems which vibrate when you go over the white lines, this system will gently steer you back into the lane. The system uses front facing cameras to detect the road markings and will make any corrections if needed.
The new Discovery Sport is available now and starts from £31,095.
