Bonhams will be offering a very special and rare 1953 Aston Martin DB3S at its Aston Martin auction taking place on the 21st of May at Aston Martin Works, Newport Pagnell.
The car was raced by Sir Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks, Peter Collins, Roy Salvadori and Reg Parnell and is expected to fetch a cool £6-7million when it goes under the hammer. The model on offer is just one of 11 that were built for the World Sportscar Championship and competed in races such as the Millie Miglia, Spa Grand Prix and Nurburgring 1000kms.
Powering the DB3S was a 2.9 litre straight-six engine which provided 182 bhp and was built to replace the DB3 which was deemed to heavy to be competitive. The DB3S weighs in at 840kg, making it 75kg lighter than its predecessor. The model for auction is chassis number 5 of 11 which was returned to Aston Martin Works by its Swiss owner in 2011. Aston Martin Works then set about restoring the 50s racer to its former glory before it was entered into a Millie Miglia re-enactment in 2014.
Aston Martin President and CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: “We are very proud of our heritage at Aston Martin so it is fascinating to hear about the histories of the cars that come up for sale at these auctions. Some of our cars have led extremely interesting lives.”
Other cars to be sold at the auction include a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Convertible, 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Series V Vantage Convertible, 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible and a 1968 Aston Martin DB6 ‘Mark I’ Volante, plus many more.
