Although their show might have been confirmed months ago, Clarkson, Hammond and May have not been able to come with a name. That is until now. You have probablyalready heard what the name of the new show it but for those of you don't, it's called 'The Grand Tour'. I must say the name feel like a real anti-climax after waiting for so long. Although I wasn't a massive fan of it, I would preferred 'Gear Knobs' which had been the rumoured name of the new show. But because it had to word 'Gear' in it which is off limits, as is 'Top'.
Not only do I feel the name is underwhelming but I feel it doesn't really give a clue to what the show is about. The Grand Tour could be about any subject It could have easily been the name of one of Alan Wicker's - the late travel reporter - shows so the name for me doesn't shout 'car show'.
Commenting on the name choice, Clarkson said: "Thing is, we'll be travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a tent. It's a sort of 'grand tour', if you like." Hmm, I get what he's saying but I still feel it a bit of a let down.
I don't know, maybe we are reading too much in to it, at the end of the day it's just a name. Something that James May seemed keen to point out. On the matter he commented: "I wanted to call it Nigel', or 'Roger'. We needed a name, and they're names." Whether you like the name or not. The Grand Tour will be hitting Amazon Prime later this year.
