A very rare - and bold - 1992 Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI will be presented for auction at Classic Car Auctions' (CCA) June sale and has an estimate for £10,000-£12,000. The car has one owner from new and has covered 66,000 miles.
Why is it so rare?
This particular model has been converted by a company called Dimma UK, a firm set up by British National Rally Champion Terry Pankhurst in 1986. The company imported the special body kit which sets this 205 out from the others and just 250 of these models were created by Dimma.
The fibreglass bodykit comes with with deep side skirts, front spoiler, large rear wing and stainless steel exhaust. The car was then finished on in a striking a metallic purple finish to make it stand out in a crowd. The car also feature a Dimma UK plaque to show it's the real McCoy and has its own unique reference number.
Speaking ahead of the sale of the rare car general manager of Classic Car Auctions, Guy Lees-Milne said, “There is a resurgence of interest in 80s hot hatches, with the 205 GTI leading the way. This example is certainly eye-catching but there is no denying its appeal with a strong market for proper Dimma cars.”
He then added: “Just to illustrate this, Dimma UK have just restarted production of a new build “Dimma 205 Signature Series using late 80s and early 90s Peugeot 205 GTIs at prices starting from £20,000. With this in mind, this car is certainly great value and we therefore expect a huge amount of interest.”
