Ok, so that headline may not scream 'interesting' but bear with with me on this one. A 42 year old Volkswagen Beetle will be offered for sale at Silverstone Auctions’ Classic Race Aarhus Auction which takes place later this month.
What makes this 1974 Beetle more special is the super low mileage it has racked up in its lifespan, just 90km - 56 miles in Queen's English - were covered in the iconic car. How comes? Well there is an unusual story behind that one. The car was bought new by its one and only owner, Armando Sgroi who purchased the car in Genoa, Italy.
He didn't actually want to own a car but it became a necessity requirement as he was a deeply religious man and needed to get to church But his age meant he could no longer walk up the local hills and therefore depended on the car to get him there.
But the Beetle was eventually put into storage as Mr Sgroi started to attend church less frequently, meaning that he no longer needed use of the car. Since then the car has been lightly restored and will now be presented for auction with an expected sale of €35,000 to €40,000 - £26,857.22-£30,693.97.
Speaking ahead of the sale, Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions commented, “The VW Beetle is one of the most successful and loved cars worldwide, and we’re no strangers to them at Silverstone Auctions, but this one is a very special example and something we rarely see. With such an incredibly low mileage it is in virtually new condition, 42 years after it was first bought.”
