Aston Martin and Italian design company Zagato have joined forces once again to build a simply stunning concept car. It is called the Vanquish Zagato and I warn you, this car may make you actually dribble. Yes, it is that gorgeous. The car's design is thanks to a combination of the Aston Martin Design team led by Mark Reichman and Andrea Zagato and his design team in Milan, Italy.
The concept will make its debut at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'esme at Lake Como across the 21st and 22nd of May. The Vanquish Zagato is the fifth car to come from the Aston Martin/Zagato partnership and joins cars such as the DB4 GT Zagato from 1960 and the more recent V12 Vantage Zagato from 2011.
Inspiration taken from models past and present
If you look closely at the Vanquish Zagato - let's face it, why wouldn't you? - you will see styling cues lifted from other famous Astons. The wing mirrors are inspired from the bank-breaking One-77 and the sculptural read end is similar to that of the new DB11. The rear lights use the same 'bladed' LED technology found in the Vulcan which is incorporated in the round tail light reflectors that compliment the classic Zagato rear design.
The body is made from carbon fibre and the split lines of the body have been minimised by using large one-piece panels. The concept also feature a 'double bubble' roof which is Zagato trademark since the early 1950s when it was used to provide enough room for crash helmets whilst still offering an aerodynamic profile.
On the inside there is the traditional mix of premium metals and leather on offer but with Zagato finishing touches. The 'Z' logo features on the headrests and on the centre console, plus you get a bold 'Z' quilt pattern stitched on the seats and sections of the door. Providing the power of this desirable package is a V12 engine which produces 592 bhp so it should be as fast as it is stunning.
Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman said 'Over the years, we have developed and refined our own design language and we have always gone that little bit further with our special series cars like CC-100, One-77 and Aston Martin Vulcan. The Vanquish Zagato Concept shows how our two companies can come together and push the definition of Aston Martin design.'
