We may all think that electric cars are a relatively new concept but two cars to be sold at a Historics at Brooklands auction on June the 11th.
1907 Victor High Wheel Electric Runabout (left) and 1906 Pope Waverley Victoria Phaeton (right) will go to auction next month
The two cars on offer are the rather long-named Pope Waverley Victoria Phaeton from 1906 and the Victor High Wheel Electric Runabout from 1907. Both cars are completely electric although they look a lot different from their modern day counterparts. Both cars American built and will have an estimate of £30,000-£40,000.
The Pope Waverley Victoria Phaeton has been fully restored and features leather-lined hood, electric coach lamps and seating for two, although there is an occasional rear-facing seat for an extra person. There is no steering wheel however, instead the car uses a tiller system and the controls as a whole are quite rudimentary. It has been fitted with modern batteries so it will have better power and range.
The Victor High Wheel Runabout also features modern batteries and charging system which were fitted when the car was imported to the UK. This particular model spent a lot of its life in display at an American museum. The chassis and bodywork has also been restored as well as the black leather upholstery and patent leather mudguards.
These two electric oldies are part of a 139 car roster which will go to auction at the June sale of Historics at Brooklands in Surrey on the 11th of June. All consignments of the auction will be available to view prior to the event on the Thursday and Friday.
