MitsuBEEshi Outlander Gets Swarmed

A grandmother in Haverfordwest, West Wales had quite the ordeal as her Mitsubishi Outlander was swarmed by thousands of BEES for over 24 hours.

Carol Howarth, 65, who owns the car was driving back from a nature reserve before the popped into town to do some shopping. In that time a swarm of around 20,000 bees descended onto the Outlander causing quite a problem for Mrs Howarth when she returned.

The issue was reported by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park ranger Tom Moses, 41, after he had seen the bizarre spectacle outside the Three Crowns pub where the car had been parked. He then contacted two members of the Pembrokeshire Beekeepers' Association to help capture the large amount of bees.

Speaking on the incident Mr Moses said: "It was spectacular. I was driving through when I spotted the big brown splodge.

"A lot of people were really amazed by it, cars were slowing down and people were taking pictures of it.

"I was a little bit concerned, with it being in the middle of town outside a pub, that someone might do something stupid and get hurt or do something stupid and hurt the bees."

The beekeepers were able to get rid of the swarm and that appeared to be that. Not quite though, after Mrs Howarth had driven home she was presented with the same problem the next morning. This meant another call had to be made to the beekeepers in a second attempt to get rid of the persistent swarm. Thankfully however, the second attempt was successful.

Speaking of the bizarre incident Mrs Howarth commented: "One theory was that the queen was trapped in my car and the swarm were following. But they couldn't find the queen anywhere so I've no idea if that was right.

"Apparently bees can swarm at this time of the year and it is a very strong instinct for them to follow the queen. I still don't really understand why because they couldn't see the queen anywhere. Perhaps they just like the heat of my car."
