Rare Mercedes 300SLR Sells For €326,500

A few weeks ago I brought you news of a very rare Mercedes Benz 300SLR that was to be offered for auction at May's Silverstone Auction which made its international debut in Mindparken, Denmark. The event took place last weekend in view of the Royal Palace and in total more than €2million was raised.

Undoubtedly the star of the show was the Mercedes Benz 300SLR which was one example of just five made. It may not be the original but it has been built to the exact dimensions and was hand-built using highest quality components possible.

The car gained a rapturous applause when the gavel fell at the fee of €326,500 - or around £250,904 in Queen's English - which was ever so slightly below the car's estimate. Other cars that sold at the auction include the ultra-low mileage 1974 Volkswagen Beetle which sold for an impressive €38,250 (£29,414), plus a 1991 BMW 850i which also had very had low mileage that sold for €87,750 (£67,493) - a believed new world record price.

Speaking immediately after its first international sale, Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said, "We’ve had a fabulous weekend here at the Classic Race Aarhus and it’s been a privilege to showcase Silverstone Auctions to a brand new audience. I want to offer my personal congratulations to all those who were successful in purchasing the cars of their dreams and hope they will be very happy with them.”
