Renault have released details of the new Twingo GT which boasts more performance than the standard model thanks to few tweaks from Renault Sport. Now let's be honest, this won't give any serious hot hatches anything to fear about but that's not to say this little motor is all show and no go. The double exhausts at the back indicate that it's not your humdrum city car.
So how much power has it got?
Under the bonnet sits a 0.9 litre Energy tCe engine which produces 110bhp with the help of a turbocharger. So that puts on par with Fiat's 105bhp TwinAir engine and like the Fiat the power will be mated to a manual gearbox. The way how the power is put down is different however, the Twingo GT features rear-wheel drive and is able to produce 170Nm of torque.
Sharper handling, handy for tight urban streets
To match the added power the Twingo has had a few changes mades to the chassis. New suspension has been fitted as well as a specific ESP calibration plus variable-rate steering. Renault say the result should be sharp handling and responsive steering feedback for precise cornering and outstanding road holding.
It will be interesting to see what the ride will be like though as I once drove a RenaultSport Twingo and I remember the ride being rather firm to say the least. That was a fun little car though, that is beyond doubt.
Small car, big wheels
The Twingo GT may be a small car but even so feature 17" alloy wheels and also boasts lateral air intakes and double exhaust pipes. It's clear that inspiration has been drawn from the Twin'Run Concept Car when you look at the overall styling package.
As well as the new orange colour that adorns the model pictured the car will be offered in Lunar Grey, Diamond Black and Crystal White. Inside the cabin there is orange trim which add to the Renault Sport-badged doorsills, aluminium pedals and an alloy gear lever knob.
It doesn't look bad but I doubt it will a match for the new Abarth 595.
