18-24 Year Olds Are The Most 'Car Proud' - But Also The Riskiest

Used car dealer The Car People have conducted a survey to find out more about the nation's motorists. 2000 drivers were questioned and it turns out that the most 'car proud' age group goes to 18-24-year-olds but the survey shows that take the biggest risks on the road.

Hardly surprising as they are to be likely driving their first car so they'll probably want to show off in front of their mates. The majority of the age group admit to regularly speeding, using their phone whilst driving and speeding up to traffic lights. Little wonder their insurance is so high then...

Other results of the survey show that unsurprisingly male drivers are more likely to speed than females with 1 in 4 admitting speeding on a regular basis. Just 1 in 4? I think some of the men were telling porky pies. Over a third of drivers asked believed that BMW drivers were the most dangerous - I think Audis are worth a shout in my opinion - but the majority of women stated that they are the most attractive so it's not all bad I suppose...

The survey also reveals drives from the North East are the most likely to sing and dance whilst driving and Londoners are the most likely to hog the middle lane - one of my pet hates. But hopefully the new(ish) law regarding lane hogging should hopefully decrease but as there are less road police officers so this is sadly unlikely.

The survey also covered car maintenance and it turns out 18% of female drivers would never check to see if their breaks are working. Crikey. 1 in 10 drivers stated that they do not check their lights regularly but the majority said they do check their car every few months for problems, oils and tyre pressure.

‘A person’s relationship with their car is very important as it’s where a great amount of people spend a lot of time. Therefore it is very important to make sure you are doing regular checks on your car to make sure you’re getting the best of it. As the survey shows, the majority of people do this, but there are a few who don’t take care of their car as they should.’ Jonathan Seaman, Senior Manager at The Car People.
