Fiat Offers Cheap Fun With New 500S

Let's say you fancy a Fiat 500 but the standard model is a bit plain for your liking but on the other hand you don't fancy splashing out for the Abarth 595. Well you demands should be met in the form of the new Fiat 500S. It's available now from £12,950 and will offer a sportier edge than the standard models.

What's included?

Well as the car is a sportier model you can expect exterior styling to match and you will not be disappointed as the car features restyled sport front and rear bumpers as well as special side skirts and of course, a rear spoiler. These details are complimented by 15-inch "Satin Graphite" alloy wheels plus a rather handsome honeycomb front grille.

A chrome exhaust, fog lamps, black air intakes and tinted windows help finish the exterior styling but it doesn't stop there of course. Step inside and you will be greeted by black sports seats plus black roof lining which is contrasted by door panels and seat edges that can come in either blue, yellow or white.

A sport steering wheel is present with a 7" TFT screen on the dashboard coming as standard. The convertible version receives an electric canvas roof plus electric heated rear window. In terms of technology, buyers can expect a Uconnect infotainment system which will offer a choice of connectivity for their devices. If you fancy a bit more tech you can pay to have the TomTom sat nav system and a 440 watt Beats audio system which makes use of seven speakers.

What about power?

Well this may be a sportier model but if you're looking for out-and-out hot hatch performance your best to look at the Abarth or something else. But that's not to say the 500S is all show and no go. Four engines will be on offer in the new car, the most powerful of which being the two-cylinder 0.9 litre TwinAir 105bhp unit. I've used this engine and it is indeed good fun although it does need to be worked a bit which means you'll struggle to get the combined fuel economy of 67.3mpg.

Top speed is 117mph and 0-62mph comes in 10 seconds so it's not blisteringly quick but it should keep enough people happy. The three other engines include the lower powered TwinAir which produces 85bhp as well as another petrol in the form of a 1.2 litre unit. Both can be mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic whereas the 105bhp unit is fitted to a six-speed manual.

A 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel engine is on offer as well which produces 95bhp a top speed of 112mph. In regards to efficieny and economy, the diesel variant offers 89g/km CO2 emissions and combined fuel economy of 83.1mpg. The price for the diesel car is £15,350.
