The Maserati Quattroporte has not always been the best looking car in my opinion but it's very difficult to pick faults with the new one, it's simply gorgeous. Thanks to a restyling it looks sharper than ever and it's sure to win the hearts of many potential buyers.
Italians doing what they do best, style
The Italians have produced a whole of host of pretty cars down the years and this new Quattroporte is no different but it's not style for style's sake, it's more functional too. The front grille is bolder and more imposing but behind sits an adjustable Air Shutter that provides optimal control of the engine's fluid temperature and improves aerodynamic drag by 10%.
The same treatment has been applied for the interior, to improve purity and functionality there are new interface elements plus a high resolution 8.4" screen with multi-touch function. The lower part of the centre console has also been redesigned offering a rotary control for volume and function control as well as a new lid and phone storage compartment.
Choose your poison
Two trims will be available on the new car, GranLusso and GranSport. Both trims cost the same price to upgrade on the lower models and on the GTS comes as standard. GranLusso is for those who want a car that focuses on luxury, making the car the perfect companion on long distance journeys. Inside occupants will be treated to an Ermenegildo Zegna Edition interior which uses a patented silk fabric and is unique in the industry. It can be found on pretty much all areas of the cabin including the seats, door, headlining and sun visors.
Open pore Radical wood features on the dashboard and also on the leather steering wheel to further emphasis the luxurious feel of the GranLusso. To further aid comfort the GranLusso makes use of an electric rear blind, four-zone air conditioning, heated rear seat and keyless entry.
If sport is what you're after then you'll be looking at the GranSport which as the name suggests places its emphasis on sporty experience. The exterior reflects this as it features aerodynamic inspired splits on the front bumper, 21" alloy wheels, red brake callipers, large exhausts and a rear spoiler finished glossy black.
Inside the cabin there is a wide range of materials on offer including stainless steel pedals, aluminium gear shift paddles and Piano Black wood trim, all of which helps add to the sporty feel of the trim. The front and rear seats have been redesigned to help the inside more sporty and the sports steering wheel can come in either full leather or carbon fibre - that's something to brag about at the pub.
Substance to go with the style
But what is powering the new car? If you opt for the range-topping GTS you can make use of a Ferrari-produced 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 engine that offers 530bhp and 710Nm of torque. This means 0-62mph is over and done with in 4.7 seconds and the top speed is a generous 193mph.
A 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 engine - also produced by Ferrari - is also available and offers a lower top speed but still plenty of performance to keep things interesting. 410bhp is produced by this unit and 550Nm of torque will be available. 0-62mph comes in a slightly slower speed of 5.1 seconds and the top speed is 178mph.
Last but not least is another 3.0 litre V6 turbo engine, this time in the form of diesel that makes use on one turbo and is not produced by Ferrari. Don't let that put you off though as it still offers a high level of performance, top speed is 157mph and 0-62mph is completed in 6.4 seconds. All engines are mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox and they're all available to order now with prices ranging from £70,510 - for the base model diesel - through to £115,040 for the GTS.
