Mazda will be taking a new special edition of its MX-5 to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed where it will be making its public debut. It’s called the MX- Icon and will be available to buy from the 1st of August but numbers will be limited as only 600 models are being produced.
The car can either come in Meteor Grey Mica or Crystal White pearlescent finishes – free of charge – and will be complemented by Soul Red wing mirrors, rear spoiler, side stripe decals and front skirt. 16” Gunmetal alloy wheels are also thrown in with the £20,995, as are black leather seats, rear parking sensors, dusk-sensing lights and automatic windscreen wipers.
The Icon model uses the same 1.5 litre SKYACTIV-G engine which is fitted in other models such as the SE-L Nav and is fitted with a six-speed manual. The power output is 129bhp meaning that 0-62mph comes in 8.3 seconds and the top speed is 127mph so it’s not the quickest roadster money can buy but it will certainly be one of the best handling.
The car will go on display at Mazda’s ‘Raise the Roof’ live music area at Goodwood alongside the MX-5 RF, MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concept cars. The display will also be celebrating the millionth MX-5 to be produced which will join the other cars on the stand.
The new car is available to pre-order now and it officially goes on sale on the 1st of August.
