After a slightly delayed start on my laptop I watched Extra Gear tonight which featured a behind the scenes look at Rory Reid's Tesla Model X film, Chris Harris in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S and a tour of Monaco with Eddie Jordan and Rory Reid. Comedians Elis James and John Robins were guests on the show.
The show kicked off with Reid and Harris having a walk around the the Aston Martin Vulcan and going through the components of it. As per usual the pair bounced off each other really well and you really get the sense there is some real chemistry - unlike Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc.
After they cover the Vulcan Harris moves onto the car he wiped the floor with in Abu Dhabi, the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S. He takes out for a spin on the Top Gear track, getting it very sideways in the process. I have to say it was a real joy to see him drift the Vantage around the track, especially as he was still able to give out information of the car whilst doing so.
We move on to Rory Reid's behind the scenes film of the Tesla Model X piece and once again it gives a nice insight on how a film comes together. Not quite as interesting as the behind the scenes of the hot hatch test but I think that is a person thing as I would much rather watch hot hatches than an electric SUV, even if it can get to 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.
Reid jumps location to Monaco where he is taken around in a typically 70s coloured Jaguar E-Type driven by Eddie Jordan. I didn't care for the colour but it's an E-Type so that's good enough for me. Jordan took Reid around the streets that make up the infamous Formula One circuit and how one should go about driving it. It wasn't a bad piece of film but for me it wasn't the most enthralling.
The show ends with two comedians I've never heard of, Elis James and John Robins. They did make me laugh though (well I suppose that is their job) and I had a good time hearing about their tales of boring economical driving. They seemed to be quite into as well - each to their own I suppose. The interview was good but it felt like it was cut short a bit, as did the show which end quite abruptly. A good show nonetheless and I will look forward to next week.
