Three cars have been awarded a five star Euro NCAP rating thanks to a high level of safety equipment as standard including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). The three models to get top marks are the SEAT Ateca, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Volkswagen Tiguan. The Ateca and Tiguan may not come as a great surprise as they are SUVs designed but special praise needs to go to the Giulia.
This is a car that designed as a stylish, performance saloon that will go against the BMW 3 Series. The Quadrifoglio version of the model can get to almost 200mph and will get to 62mph in less than 4 seconds. The Giulia scored a near perfect 98% for adult occupant rating and a respectable 81% for child occupant safety. 69% was awarded for pedestrian safety and 60% for safety assist.
The Ateca scored a lower adult occupant safety score of 93% but scored a higher child occupant safety level of 84%. A slightly higher score of 71% was awarded for pedestrian safety and the safety assist rating was the same as awarded to the Giulia, 60%.
The VW Tiguan makes the best compromise as it scored 96% for adult occupant safety and 84% for child occupant safety. It gained the highest score for both pedestrian safety and safety assist with scores of 72% and 68% respectively.
