Top Gear Week 5: Preview

The weekend is sure to be dominated by the Goodwood Festival of Speed but don't forget Top Gear is still on. I felt last weeks episode was a bit of a step backwards compared to episode 3 but it was watchable enough. The viewing figures didn't fare well though as 2.34 million viewers tuned in which was the lower than 2.36 million posted in 2003 - the lowest figure in the Clarkson, Hammond and May era. This has caused bookmakers to put odds on the show being cancelled. But enough of the past, let's move on to the future.

Is Chris Evans really wearing the same outfit?!

Harris slides about in a M2

Chris Harris returns to the Top Gear track after his Abu Dhabi trip with the Aston Martin Vulcan to slither about in the superb BMW M2. I've driven myself and I have to say it's a fine car, in my short drive in it I couldn't find anything wrong with it, it just felt 'right'. That is a film I am very much looking forward to as it'll be interesting to see what Harris makes of it.

Reid relives the past

Rory Reid will be driving one of my favourite cars, the Jaguar F-Type SVR, from the UK to Geneva. How does this relive the past? The drive will replicate that of Norman Dewis, who was tasked with getting an E-Type to Geneva in time for the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. When you have a moment, check out Norman's story as it's a pretty interesting one.

Evans and LeBlanc head to Ireland

Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc will be heading to Ireland to pit two luxury cars against each other, the Rolls-Royce Dawn and a 1976 Rolls-Royce Corniche. They will be driving about in Dingle on the west coast which is not the first place I think of when I think of luxury but there we go. Maybe the budget was running out when they happened to film it.

Saunders and Hollywood take on the Rallycross track

The mismatch of guests continues, this week we will have actress Jennifer Saunders and chef Paul Hollywood. I just hope the momentum of the show is not affected to much as so far I have found this segment to really take the wind out of the sails of the show and I really, really, really, hope they either scrap it or improve it for the next series.

It's worth noting the last show is on the 3rd of July which may not be of any real significance but if England beat Iceland (likely) they will be playing on the 3rd of July at 8pm. Sooooo this means Top Gear will move to a the slot of 6:30pm but if England lose it will be business as usual - 8pm.
