Extra Gear: Finale

So we've had the last Top Gear in the series which means tonight was the last in the series for Extra Gear. This was the show that won the early plaudits and was actually better than the main event. This was mainly because it wasn't trying to be something it wasn't and also before of two men - Chris Harris and Rory Reid. Two presenters that have really come into their own in the new format of Top Gear/Extra Gear.

Coming together

On tonight's show Rory Reid shows us how the cars come together in the studio and how much effort is put into not only getting the cars there on time, but also getting them in the right places in the studio. Honestly it wasn't the most exciting piece I've seen on Extra Gear but let's remember, the whole point of the show is to show us what goes on behind the scenes - not all of it is exciting.

Harris goes sideways in the BMW i8

Chris Harris can go sideways in pretty much anything it seems, they may as well call him Crab Harris. He goes in in the BMW i8 in an effort to get it sideways and to begin with, it looks like the BMW has him well and truly licked. But with a bit of perseverance and some skill Harris is able to kick the backend out of the hybrid sportscar. Some people have a tough job don't they?

Reid takes the MGB to Silverstone

In a bid to see whether or not the Frontline modified MGB Roadster is ok with MG enthusiasts, he takes the 168mph roasters to MG Live which is held at Silverstone. The first signs appear to be good but the car is soon frowned upon as they prefer the car in its original state. Things aren't looking good until the chairman of the MGC register and the chairman of the MG Midget register give the modified MGB the thumbs up.

Schmitz and LeBlanc drop in

The show concludes with Sabine Schmitz and Matt LeBlanc dropping in to discuss their highlights of the series and what cars they are looking forward to coming out. A highlight reel of the series is then played which wraps everything nicely. So that is it for the first series of Extra Gear, it's been a good edition to the show and far from the gimmick I thought it would have been. I am definitely looking forward to the next series, whenever that may be.
