What Is The Most Iconic Supercar?

There have been some wonderful supercars throughout the years, some of which have been game-changers and have helped to move the automotive world forward. Certain brands such as Ferrari and Lamborghini have a plethora of such cars - they are pretty much the byword for supercars.

They are the stuff of dreams, bedroom posters and of course speed. Speaking of speed, The Fast Car Festival conducted a survey to find out what is considered to be the most iconic supercar. The winner is not a great surprise but I must say, second place did catch me by surprise.

Fancy having a guess what won? Well if you said the Ferrari F40 then give yourself pat on the back because you are 100% right. The F40 may not be the most aesthetically pleasing supercar but it's one of the rawest. In the pursuit of power Ferrari designed the F40 to be light as possible and as result the F40 has plastic windows, no door handles and not even a glovebox. Even the door panels were excluded to ensure not a single gram was not wasted.

Helping to provide the power was a 2.9 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which delivered 471bhp meaning the F40 was able to boast of almost 200mph, making it one of the fastest cars in the world of its time.

But what about the rest? Well surprisingly in second place was the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, a car which no doubt beautiful but I can't believe it has beaten the likes of the Porsche 911 and the McLaren F1. Speaking of those two they came in at sixth and fourth respectively. The other surprise is that there is no room for the truly innovate Bugatti Veyron - shock horror if you ask me. Below is the full list of the cars that made the top 10 but what do you think?

  1. Ferrari F40

  2. Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

  3. Ferrari La Ferrari

  4. McLaren F1

  5. Koenniggsegg

  6. Porsche 911

  8. Ferrari Enzo

  9. Audi R8

The Fast Car Festival takes place at Donnington Park over the 30th and 31st of July, providing live entertainment, interviews with motoring celebrities and of course, fast cars. Visitors can even purchase a ticket enabling them to take their cars on to the Donnington track but if you'd rather leave it to a professional, there's a chance to win a high-thrill passenger ride with motoring presenter and former racing driver Tiff Needell.
