Social media is a powerful tool nowadays and #pretty #much #everything #has #a #hashtag, but could you imagine buying a car over Twitter? No, neither did I but that is what a Spanish Nissan dealer has managed - the first brand to do so in Europe.
The dealership in question is Antamotor who liaised with customer Raul Escolano via the social media platform Twitter from start to finish to complete the sale of a Nissan X-Trail. This came after a daring challenge from Mr Escolano to see if it was possible to buy a car using Twitter. Using the hashtag #compraruncocheportwitter (in English, buy a car on Twitter) he contacted a selection of Spanish dealerships to try his luck.
Antamotor was able to showcase the X-Trail and go through its features via the live streaming app Periscope. Nissan then went head-to-head with rival models on a Twitter based poll conducted by Mr Escolano in which followers were asked to rate the cars on the shortlist. The survey reached a staggering 2.6 million people and the X-Trail came out on top with 43% of the votes.
The dealership then sent the keys via courier to Mr Escolano to seal the deal and once the formalities were taken care of, he headed down to the brand's Spanish HQ to pick up the car face-to-face, two months after the sale began. #success!
So it goes to show social media is a powerful tool that can be used for just about anything if you set your mind to it.
