Silverstone Auctions will be hosting the sale of a very special car in its auction taking place at the Silverstone Classic motor sport festival taking place on Saturday the 30th of July. It's a 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello that once belonged to footballing legend Sir Geoff Hurst, the player who scored a hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup final to help secure England's first and only World Cup trophy.
Fifty years of hurt later there is now the chance to buy the Italian supercar once owned by the England legend. The car has covered just 36,600 miles and is offered in excellent condition after having been kept in a heated and dehumidified storage facility. The estimate for the Sir Hurst's 550 is between £120,000 and £150,000 which is cheaper than I was expecting if I'm honest although it's not what you'd call 'cheap'.
The car is finished in an Argento Nurburgring paintjob and the inside is furnished with black leather Daytone style seats, full carbon trim as well as leather headlining. Included in the price will be two sets of keys, a fitted red Ferrari cover, full Ferrari leather bound book pack, a fresh MOT and full service history.
Speaking ahead of the sale, Nick Whale, Silverstone Auctions managing director said, “This is a very desirable Ferrari. Front engined V12 Ferrari Grand Tourers have always been the stuff of legend since the days of the original 365 GTB/4 Daytona back in the early 1970s. With only 457 right-hand drive 550 Maranellos made, the car is highly collectible. Not only that it’s a superb drivers car, with a fantastic history, this example even more so for football aficionados.”
