Top Gear Christmas Special Axed

It's no secret that the latest series of Top Gear was far from a roaring success, in fact the series finale drew in just 1.9million viewers when it aired at the end of June. As a result of the poor viewing figures Chris Evans has left the show although the police allegation would have played a role in the ginger presenter's decision to leave.

The viewing figures in the UK may have been nothing to boast about but in the fact the new incarnation of Top Gear was more popular worldwide than the the Clarkson, Hammond and May version - now there's a turn-up for the books! In hindsight maybe my comment about the new show not being a roaring success was a little harsh.

The Top Gear Christmas specials have provided some great viewing in the past - except from the infamous India Special - but the BBC has allegedly confirmed that there will be no special on our TV screens come Christmas time. Instead the main focus will be on the new series which will air early 2017.

Yes, that's right, there will not be another Top Gear series this year which means there will be a long wait to see what the next series has in store. Personally it would have been good to see a Christmas special but on the flip-side I suppose it gives the TG more time to perfect the formula for the next series which will be without the ginger shouty man.

Evans told the Mail on Sunday that he was a "square peg in a round hole" and that it was right for him to leave the hit BBC show. He added, "But letting go with a smile on your face is far better than clinging on till you look constipated. Know what I mean?" Interesting analogy...
