The Ford Cortina was once a common sight on the UK roads and but you won't find too many on the road nowadays. Even so, you are very unlikely to find many that have travelled less than this pristine example. This dark green 1500 GT model will go under the hammer at the Historic at Brooklands auction taking place on the 20th of August.
The car has just covered on average one mile a day in its 53 year history and for those of who that know your way around a calculator, you'll know that's 19,244 miles. It's virtually new - sort of. It's also an award winner - in its lifetime it has won four concours awards.
It won't win any awards for performance though as the 1.5 litre engine is able to get the classic Ford to 60mph in a time of wait for it...14 seconds. Having said that, that's five seconds than the Morris Oxford of the time. Top speed was a dizzying 95mph but I suppose this was the sixties so I can't be cruel. It's had two owners in its history - the last of which obtained the car 27 years ago.
Just like new: the 1.5 engine looks as it did when it left the showroom 53 years ago
Both owners have taken extreme care of the 1500 GT and it's paid off as it looks immaculate inside and out, plus the original jack and tools are present. The car has been looked after so well that one of the previous owners refused to drive it home from a MoT once as it was raining and chose to walk instead. It wasn't collected until three days later when the roads are dry - that's commitment for you.
The estimate for this pristine Cortina £24,000-£28,000 and will go to auction on the 20th of August, further details can be found here.
