Good news! The Audi R8 Spyder is now available to buy with prices starting from £129,990. Key features of the 2nd generation model include Audi's Space Frame, Audi Virtual Cockpit, Audi Connect and of course, the naturally aspirated V10 engine.
Wind in your hair, V10 in your ears
The automatic cloth hood can be raised or lowered in twenty seconds and can be operated at speeds of 31mph. Once the roof is down you'll be able to revel in the grumble of the naturally aspirated V10 engine which produces 540bhp. 0-62mph comes in a thunderous 3.6 seconds and the top speed is just shy off 197mph.
Hmm, I think I prefer it with the roof down
Taking the roof of a car is an attractive proposition but it does mean the car has less strength due to the lack of fixed roof. However, Audi has employed its Space Frame technology meaning the new R8 Spyder is 50% more rigid than the previous model. So no need to worry that taking the roof off the coupe will make the Spyder wobbly and cumbersome in the bends.
Ahh that's better!
You can crank it up to 11 with the optional Sports Plus Pack - this adds more responsive, variable ratio dynamic steering, Audi magnetic ride adaptive damping and a even louder exhaust system finished with black exhaust pipes.
What else?
As you can expect there will be plenty of tech available - Audi's Virtual Cockpit comes as standard, as does the MMI interface which provides navigation and smartphone connectivity. Die hard music fans can take advantage of the new Bang & Olufsen option which fits two loudspeakers into each of the seats. But who wants to listen to the music when you have a a big V10 engine behind you?
